Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as the Judas tree or Judas-tree,[1] is a small deciduous tree in the flowering plant family Fabaceae which is noted for its prolific display of deep pink flowers in spring. It is native to Southern Europe and Western Asia.
Judas tree blooms in April and May in spring. They are pink or purple in color and are gathered in magnificent corymbs. Their appearance along the entire length of the branches and on the trunk is characteristic.
Features and Benefits:
A small, slow-growing tree. Decorative because of the bunches of pink flowers growing straight from the trunk and thicker branches. Fragrant flowers. Leaves turn yellow in autumn.
Application:
recommended for small gardens.
Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in lukewarm water for about 24-48 hours.
