Alcea rosea, the common hollyhock, is an ornamental dicot flowering plant in the family Malvaceae. It was imported into Europe from southwestern China during, or possibly before, the 15th century. Alcea Rosea is a beautiful flowering perennial plant. Grows up to 6-8 ft. in height. In the first year, the plant produces the vegetative part of the shoots and leaves, while in the second year, the Alcea Rosea flowers in July and blooms until the end of August/September. The plant produces huge flower stalks, up to 6-8 ft. high, they grow from the leaf axils, blooms intensively and profusely, full flowers, large, up to 3-5 in. in diameter, gathered in clusters that cover the entire flower stalks. Flowers smell pleasantly, give off a specific delicate aromatic scent, the color of flowers varies from dark blue (almost black) through red - pink, yellow, cream to white (the package contains plant seeds of various colors). Alcea Rosea is a plant perfectly suitable for planting near fences and walls as a background for compositions with annual plants, perennials, shrubs and cut flowers. Alcea Rosea is a plant that grows excellently on any type of soil, likes sunny and partially shaded places. It requires abundant watering during hot days.

Alcea Rosea is frost-resistant and can withstand a temperature drop down to - 13 F. Sowing seeds all year round, sow the seeds into ordinary garden soil and water them, put the pot with sowing aside in a warm place. We plant annual seedlings at the turn of spring and summer, at a distance of 20 - 27 in.
